SFI has announced that Dr. Gene Wong has been appointed as the interim ICT Director.

Here’s the official announcement:

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has engaged Dr Gene Wong as interim director of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Dr Wong is Emeritus Professor at the University of California at Berkeley in the US; his career has encompassed roles in academia, industry and government service. In the IT sphere, he is well known as co-designer of the Ingres database management system. He is also
a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineer and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy
of Arts and Sciences, the Academia Sinica and the Swedish Academy of Engineering.

Gene is a huge name in the software space, and is a great catch for SFI.
